Idea we used for children in need

Welcome!

It was a couple of weeks before children in need in 2006 and myself (Chloe), Sarah, Helen and George were having a drink and we got chatting trying to decide what we should do to raise some money.

George said that he is not very good at get sponsership and collecting money after events and that he wouldn't be much good. So Helen suggested that we try a slightly different format as her, Sarah and myself weren't very keen on doing something daft.

The final format we decided upon was that Sarah, Helen and myself would organise it and get sponsership/donations and collect money at the end and George would do the daft events. We decided upon 3 daft events and each one had a price tag with it so that when we had collected that much money George would do it.

The three daft events were Head Shave at £50, Leg Wax at £100 and to dress up in a costume we provided for £150.

Well it was about a week before the big day and we put Sarah in charge of getting a costume ready so she went of and took Georges measurements and got his shoe size and it turned out they were a similar size.

What I don't think george expected was that Sarah would just use her halloween costume from a few weeks before. Lets just say that is consisted of knee high boots, fishnet stockings a wig and the rest was PVC.

On the days running up to the actual day we did some preliminary fund raising with bake sales and getting sponserships.

By 10:00 a.m. on the day we had already reached our first target and so we got to shave his head. This was fun (and we also had a quick auction for the honour of doing it and the money raised from that went towards the next target)

It was 1:00 p.m. when we managed to get to the second target and I got to wax his legs. It is always fun seeing a man going through the pain we do to look nice.

I wasn't sure if we would make the last target but a quick phone call to his wife got us closer and by 4:00 p.m. we had reached it.

As we showed him the costume he was going to be wearing he did start to look worried, but he couldn't back out now so off went in to the toilets to get changed.

When he returned he was struggling to walk in the boots as they had 3 inch heels on them, but he didn't fall over so we lead him to a chair where we then finished the costume with the wig and make up.

At 4:30 p.m. his wife turned up (as we had called her telling her we had reached the target and what he was going to be wearing.) Unfortunatly for George his wife thought it would be fun to take his normal clothes home with her so he had to travel home in the costume as well.

Well we all had fun (even George though not as much as others) and raised some money.
